Pediatric Healthcare Update December 2020

Season’s Greetings to our Pediatric Healthcare Families,

We hope you and your family are doing well as we continue to weather the life changes brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic. It has been pleasing to see how well children and teens have done with the reopening of schools and daycares. Illness in general is still at historic lows for the season as a result of precautions taken to prevent the spread of COVID. The majority of sick children we are seeing have common colds and other viral illnesses typical for the season. We are seeing a few COVID-positive patients, and all are experiencing either no symptoms or mild illness, with no hospitalizations.

By way of update, we are back to regular business hours seeing patients for sick and well visits. We ask that all sick patients wait in the cars until called back to an exam room. Patients arriving for well visits are screened upon arrival by phone and then given the option of waiting in the car or waiting room (with social distancing). All patients are screened with a temperature check once in the exam room. We do have the capability of testing patients for COVID-19 using a rapid method or an overnight PCR test.

You may know that the CDC has shortened the quarantine period for patients having close contact with COVID-positive individuals from 14 days to 10 days. This change should make life less complicated for those caught in this situation. Any individual testing positive must still isolate for 10 days and then may return to school or work once fever-free for 24 hours.

Finally, please keep Dr. Simon in your prayers as he continues on medical leave battling an autoimmune condition.  He is hopeful that a recent change in treatment plan will bring positive results.

Thank you again for entrusting us with the care of your children. We want to wish you a blessed Christmas and happy New Year.
